How to Be Sure You're A Christian
God created you for a purpose - to worship Him and enjoy a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. There is no other way! Jesus made this claim for Himself: I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who lived on Earth, suffered punishment, and died on a cross to pay for your sins. Three days later, He rose from the dead. This is what we call the gospel. We aren't Christians because our parents are Christians or because we were baptized and grew up in the church. Each of us must believe and accept Christ for ourselves, on His terms, just as He is presented in Scripture. Below is a brief summary of the gospel. It explains, according to the Bible, how you can become a Christian. 1. Every one of us disobeys God in some way (we call this disobedience 'sin'). Sin separates us from God. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. – But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. – 2. This separation results in death and judgment. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power. - 3. There is a solution – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit. - 4. This solution is a free gift of God. It cannot be earned by doing good or trying to make things right. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. - He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. - 5. To have this free gift, you must ask for it in faith. Ask for forgiveness and confess Jesus as your Savior. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. - If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. – If you are ready to accept the gift of eternal life through Jesus, and you truly desire to ask Him into your heart to be your personal Lord and Savior, then pray this prayer: Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that You died for my sins and rose from the grave so that I might have eternal life in Heaven with You. I confess my sins and ask you to come into my heart and life. Take control of my words, thoughts, and actions. I place all of my trust in You for my salvation. I accept You as my Lord and Savior, and this free gift of eternal life. Amen.
